Sounding Spaces Symposium
2013
In November 2013, I teamed up with sonic artist Bethan Kelleogh to host an innovative symposium at the University of Glasgow, centered around the exploration of sound and space. This two-day event was designed to create a collaborative platform for artists and researchers with a shared interest in the auditory dimension of spatial experiences.
The first day of the symposium was dedicated to in-depth discussions, providing each of the eight participants a chance to share and delve into their unique practices. This session fostered an environment of intellectual exchange, allowing attendees to gain insights into diverse approaches to sound in artistic and research contexts.
The second day took a more hands-on, experimental approach. We allocated time for participants to engage directly with sound equipment, offering them the opportunity to both demonstrate and interact with various sonic artworks. This experiential day was not just about showcasing work but also about immersing in the practical aspects of sound art, encouraging exploration, and sparking creative collaborations among attendees. The symposium thus served as a melting pot of ideas and practices, enriching the understanding of sound's role in shaping spatial experiences.
