Creative Geoviz @ Luanar
2018The workshop I conducted at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Malawi, was an innovative and engaging program tailored for environmental science students. This workshop combined the cutting-edge techniques of drone technology with the creative process of storymapping, providing students with a unique educational experience.
In this workshop, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of operating drones, focusing on their application in environmental science. Students learned hands-on how to pilot drones, capture aerial data, and understand the technical aspects of drone operation in environmental monitoring and research.
The storymapping component of the workshop encouraged students to transform the data collected through drones into compelling narratives. They were taught how to utilize storymapping tools to visually represent environmental data, weaving together geographic information, imagery, and narrative elements to tell impactful stories about environmental issues and phenomena.
This combination of practical drone skills and creative storytelling offered students a comprehensive understanding of how modern technology can be harnessed in environmental science. It not only equipped them with technical proficiencies but also inspired them to think creatively about communicating complex environmental data and stories to a broader audience.
